Supply chain disruptions would increase agricultural greenhouse gas emissions

چکیده

Abstract We investigate the impacts of a global crisis to trade systems such as Russia-Ukraine war on agricultural emissions, using two emissions accounting approaches: (1) production-based approach, which only accounts for domestic and (2) trade-adjustment considers imports exports when calculating emissions. find that can substantially increase in scenario. The relative degree change, however, varies between approaches. At country level, largest increases are found several import-dependent countries. Reasons likely two-fold: high dependence certain countries food from Russia Ukraine, higher emission intensities (i.e., amount per unit product) imported items Ukraine. Very few show lower Our results thus highlight urgent need avoid negative repercussions their while increasing production. Concurrently, our findings underscore benefits an process flows. By reforming adopting approach accounting, contribute towards effective climate mitigation well become more resilient shocks.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through operations and supply chain management

The experiences of the largest corporation in the world and those of a start-up company show how companies can profitably reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their supply chains. The operations management literature suggests additional opportunities to profitably reduce emissions in existing supply chains, and provides guidance for expanding the capacity of new “zero emission” supply chains. The...

Supply Chain Design and the Cost of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The design of a supply chain not only in‡uences a retailer’s cost, it in‡uences its customers’costs with stores few and far between, consumers must travel a long distance to shop, whereas their shopping trips are short with a dense network of stores. This supply chain design problem is the combination of two well studied problems: the Traveling Salesmen problem and the k-median problem. A solut...

Agricultural opportunities to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Agriculture is a source for three primary greenhouse gases (GHGs): CO(2), CH(4), and N(2)O. It can also be a sink for CO(2) through C sequestration into biomass products and soil organic matter. We summarized the literature on GHG emissions and C sequestration, providing a perspective on how agriculture can reduce its GHG burden and how it can help to mitigate GHG emissions through conservation...

Greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural food production to supply Indian diets: Implications for climate change mitigation

Agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally. The growing global population is putting pressure on agricultural production systems that aim to secure food production while minimising GHG emissions. In this study, the GHG emissions associated with the production of major food commodities in India are calculated using the Cool Farm Tool. GHG emissions, based on farm ma...

Managing Supply Chain Disruptions

Given the substantive negative financial, marketing, and operationsrelated consequences of supply chain disruptions, it is not surprising that most organizations are expending significant efforts to develop effective disruption management strategies. Further, the focus on lowcost (and lean) supply chains to control costs has also resulted in magnifying the impact of even a small disruption at a...
